College volleyball player Macy Petty is taking a similar stance to Riley Gaines, criticizing the sports industry for not safeguarding female athletes from transgender male athletes that want to participate in female based sports.”There’s a lot of money in sports and these coaches, their jobs are dependent on them winning,” Macy Petty told “Varney & Co.” guest host David Asman on Monday.
Scholarship For Females
“So, if there’s no rules from the NCAA saying that it has to be a female that occupies this female scholarship spot, then they’re going to go out and recruit whoever’s going to win.
Unfortunately, because of biological advantages, they’re going to go out and recruit men now.”
Concerns Mount
Concerns are mounting as it has been reported by The University of Washington, a division 1 school,
Has decided to award a women’s volleyball scholarship to a 17 year old transgender athlete named Tate Dragset.
Biological males
Riley Gaines, the former professional athlete who has been outwardly candid about the issue of allowing biological males to participate in women’s sports,
She accused Drageset of “stealing the already few opportunities for women at the collegiate level” in a heated X post last Wednesday.
Widespread Public Outcry
Per a report from the LGBTQ+ news outlet LGBTQ+ Nation,
The university withdrew the scholarship after the widespread public outcry.
Long-Term Injuries
During the Monday segment, Asman brought attention to a case in California who has allegedly sustained long-term injuries,
This incident occurred after a transgender athlete spiked the ball and struck the female athlete.
Lost Opportunities
Petty, much like Gaines, is discouraged by what she sees as missed opportunities,
Combined with a huge list of other concerns such as the potential for physical harm as female athletes compete against opponents with biological advantages.
“It’s Heartbreaking”
Petty replied, “It’s heartbreaking. We’re seeing it from coast to coast,” “Just last year, we saw something very similar in North Carolina.
This is very uncommon for volleyball, but this is what happens when you put men on the court with other female athletes.”
Scholarships
She explained,
“Thankfully, no injuries occurred, but it was in front of college scouts and so our scholarships were at risk.”
Witnessed Directly
Petty said that even though she hasn’t witnessed a situation where a female athlete was injured by a biological male,
She has had the experience of competing against one.
Clarity On The Rules
Petty said she would like to see the NCAA
“clarify the rules that girls’ sports are for girls only.”
Policy With Sports And Transgender’s Participating
A track athlete from Connecticut, Selina Soule, for example,
sued the state over its “unfair” transgender sports policy and contended that women are being “robbed.”
Highlighted
Concerns that are similar to hers have been brought to the attention of various sports and levels of competition.
It seems to be a running theme among many biological female athletes.
Alliance Defending Freedom
As per Alliance Defending Freedom,
The entire United States Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit reinstated the lawsuit that was filed by Soule and three other female athletes.
Swim Team
Thomas transitioned to the University of Pennsylvania women’s swim team
After competing with the men’s swim team for three years prior.
First Place
Riley Gaines experienced challenges of her own when she had to share the top spot with transgender athlete Lia Thomas at the 2022 NCAA Championships.
Gaines has spoken about this experience many times, sharing how it negatively affected her as an athlete.
